About

What’s this site?

Just a humble food and recipe blog. It’s mostly the product of Rachel Luxemburg and Claudia Greco, but a few friends and loved ones may also contribute from time to time.

Rachel is a NYC-born marketing geek who also loves food and cooking. Her main blog is here.

Claudia is an author, writing on culture, history and genealogy, as well as a diehard Manhattan foodie. When not in her kitchen, she can be spotted either dishing dirt and recipes on this blog, or gossiping wildly on Ruhlman’s.

If you’d like to get in touch with us, feel free to leave a comment, or you can send an e-mail to rachel (at) profumoprofondo.com.

What’s with the name?

It’s inspired by a phrase in Bill Buford’s book Heat: An Amateur’s Adventures as Kitchen Slave, Line Cook, Pasta-Maker, and Apprentice to a Dante-Quoting Butcher in Tuscany:

profumo profondo della mia carne, the perfume of her meat.

referring to the scent of a sausage-maker’s kitchen in Italy. It’s resonant of the deep, nonverbal connections that we make to food, and it seemed appropriate for a blog about food and cooking.
